TR5 Trophy Fender Buck

Had a great Thanksgiving weekend with my Dad. Spent the day developing a wood buck for shaping a rear fender (1953 TR5 Project.) What is a Wood Buck? a wood buck is simply a wood pattern used to reference the size and shape of your sheet metal when metal forming. Many people use wire forms or flexible tape to make patterns. However, the scrap plywood at the back of the shop made it the most appealing option. Mapping out a 15.5” radius on a piece of scrap 3/4” plywood. Quick cut with the Jig Saw… Laying out the spacing for the ribs of the buck, 6” apart seemed appropriate. Cutting relief holes in the spine of the buck so I can easily clamp the metal to the buck to check it’s form. 2” spokes / 2” spine. Using a piece of cardboard, we took a profile from the fender stays/supports and then cut 14 ribs to run along the spine of the buck. This is what consumed a lot of time... however, it worked out well. Added small supports for gluing and stapling. We used PL construction glue...
